American Dream (Immigrant's Song) is a music video about loving a country that is starting to feel like it no longer loves you back. It moves as a linear narrative set to original music, following one immigrant's journey from arrival and hope, through disillusionment and fear, into a fragile but determined faith in what comes next. I am a Canadian filmmaker who has lived legally in the United States since 2013. In July of 2025, as the political climate around immigration darkened, I wrote the lyrics to this song privately, as a way to process what I was feeling. I could not sleep, I could not focus, and I needed somewhere to put the fear. I sat on the song for months and shared it with only a few people close to me. As the headlines kept coming and the fear kept growing, I decided it was time to release it. Not as a protest, but as a hand reaching out to anyone else feeling the same way. I wrote every lyric myself. I composed the music using AI, shaping it line by line until the melody matched the ache underneath the words. I generated every shot of the film using AI, then edited the entire story by hand in Adobe Premiere Pro, cutting the footage to the breath of the vocal performance. There is no crew behind this film. There is one immigrant, alone at her desk in Colorado, using the most current creative tools available to tell a story about how immigrants feel. The film opens with the immigrant's arrival, drawn toward American mountains and quiet streams, the country at its most mythic. Then the world begins to harden. Neon light bleeds across cold streets. Headlines scroll past like blades. Walls rise. The protagonist drifts through a country she still loves and no longer recognizes, watching a national mythology fracture around her in real time. In the final movement, she lifts her flag to half raised and turns toward the North Star, refusing both naive optimism and total despair. She chooses, instead, to keep going. This is a personal film, but the feeling at its center is not unique to me. Millions of people in this country right now are caught in the same emotional space, between belonging and exile, between gratitude and grief. American Dream (Immigrant's Song) was made to give that feeling somewhere to live. If it brings even one viewer a moment of being seen, it has done its job.
